Brief Description

Sabah is the northern part of Malaysian Borneo. It has a variety of terrains and ecosystems, from coastal areas to inland tropical jungle and up the highest mountain in South East Asia, 4095-meter high Mt. Kinabalu. Many of the plants and animals found in Sabah are unique to the area.

This course is for Outward Bound participants who have already successfully completed one course and who are now looking for another challenge and adventure. The course starts out at the Outward Bound Sabah centre and after a day of preparation soon takes the participants on the first of two expeditions, trekking through the jungle to the interior of Borneo. During the journey there will be camping in the jungle as well as home stays with local families in small villages, giving good opportunity for cultural exchange & community service. After the jungle expedition, a city challenge in Kota Kinabalu and preparation for the final expedition, the participants takes the Mesilau route up to the overnight hostel at 11,000 ft, before the final push and a sunrise view from the top of Mt. Kinabalu. The course ends with reflection and debriefing back at the Outward Bound Sabah centre. 

International courses allow for the ultimate set of dynamics in an Outward Bound course. New people, new places, new activities, new experiences. With such a wide variety of adventures, each with uncertain outcomes, international courses requires participants to develop their capabilities much further than they would be able to on a course based in the home country.
