The Roof of the World

‘Shangri La’, ‘the Rooftop of the World’ – locked away in its Himalayan fortress, Tibet has long exercised a hold on the imagination of the world. Tibet is a land of stark, arid beauty, where snow capped mountains guard sacred turquoise lakes, and centuries-old monasteries are pervaded by the smell of yak-butter lamps, the chanting of mantras by monks in saffron robes, and the prostrations of the pious.

This course will provide you with a unique, enriching and challenging journey along part of the Himalayas. You will be engaging in two challenging expeditions in the Ganden and Everest region. You will trek up a mountain of over 4,000 metres and spend low-oxygen nights with the nomads’ camps close by and the cloying Drolma near the Rongphu Monastery.

You will also get the opportunity to experience Tibet’s spiritual traditions, visit the temples and monasteries and interact with the friendly ethnic Tibetans by doing a service project in the local community.

It is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the “forbidden land”, to meet the exotic people and to be so close to countless stars in the sky as well as your inner soul.

But, this is an Outward Bound course and so you and your group will be encouraged to overcome challenges and to push yourselves hard on some days. We will be encouraging you to become your best self. Long days and hard effort.

This is way more than an adventure holiday.
