Instructor Trainees

Outward Bound® is Hong Kong’s premier provider of life-changing personal development experiences.

Instructor Trainees:
We are seeking mature, energetic, and inspired applicants for our ten-week Outdoor Instructor Training Programme. Successful applicants will be provided with the required skills and experience to be eligible for employment as an instructor within Outward Bound Hong Kong. This is a thorough and rigorous leadership development programme, and offers international as well as local perspectives on the outdoor industry.

Essential Requirements:
· A mature and energetic nature with a belief in human potential
· Strong ethics, values and integrity
· A high level of personal initiative
· A willingness to be flexible in regards to situations, working hours and conditions
· Excellent communication skills.
· Ability to swim, preferably with life saving qualifications
· First aid qualifications

Preferred:
· A background in social work, education, training or personal development
· Qualifications and/or experience in outdoor activities

Freelance Instructors

We are seeking mature, energetic, and inspired applicants to be placed on our database of expatriate and local freelance experiential education instructors.

Essential Requirements:
  • A mature and energetic nature with a belief in human potential
  • Have senior first aid and life saving qualifications
  • Professional qualifications and/or equivalent logged experience in one or more of the following areas:
    - ropes courses rescue/management
    - mountaineering/sport climbing/abseiling
    - kayaking/canoeing
    - land expeditions/orienteering
    - group facilitation
    - small boat sailing
  • Competency in English and Cantonese

    Preferred:
  • Competency in Mandarin
  • Previous Outward Bound experience

    Applicants must be legally allowed to work in Hong Kong.

    Successful applicants will need to attend a selection weekend. All training and assessment of competencies will be unpaid. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experiences.

  • Freelance Skipper

    Hong Kong’s leading provider of life-changing experiential education programmes is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of SKIPPER on our 67 foot yacht “The Spirit of Outward Bound Hong Kong”.


    Essential Requirements:
  • RYA Ocean Yacht Master/ Hong Kong Masters and Engineers Grade I or equivalent
  • Ship's Captain Medical Certificate or Equivalent
  • A recognised long range radio ticket
  • A history of maintenance and repair of yachts
  • A history of offshore sailing with logged experience as an offshore skipper on a vessel of similar size and characteristics
  • A history of delivering sail training to novices
  • A history of managing budgets, inventory, logistics and resources

    Preferred:
  • RYA Yacht Master Instructor or equivalent
  • A history of working with youth in an educational setting
  • An understanding of the mission and values of Outward Bound
  • Conversational Cantonese

  • Training Instructor

    We are seeking mature, energetic and highly skilled applicants for the position of Training Instructor at Outward Bound Hong Kong.

    The successful applicant will have the following attributes.

    Essential Requirements:
  • A mature and energetic nature with a belief in human potential
  • Strong ethics, values and integrity
  • A high level of personal initiative
  • A willingness to be flexible in regards to situations, working hours and conditions
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills
  • Three years work experience at an Outward Bound School
  • Bronze Medallion Life Saving Qualification or equivalent
  • A First Aid Qualification
  • Experience and qualifications in sailing instruction
  • Experience and qualifications in sea kayak instruction
  • High personal standards in terms of professionalism and role modeling
  • Super attention to detail and record keeping


    Preferred:

  • Experience and qualifications in hill walking/mountaineering
  • Experience and qualification in rock climbing
  • Experience and qualifications in power boating
  • Ability to write clear and effective lesson plans
